The National Sports Council (NSC), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) and the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), is currently conducting an OSEP (Oceania Sport Education Program) and Physical Education Workshop in Buala, Isabel Province, from 30 September to 4 October 2026.

The five-day training brings together Physical Education teachers, sports masters from schools across Isabel Province, members of sports associations and community coaches. The workshop is designed to strengthen the delivery of quality physical education and community sport in Isabel Province, while also supporting schools as they prepare for the National School Games in 2027.

The Buala workshop follows a successful round of similar training held last month in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province, where PE teachers, sports masters and sports association representatives completed the same programme. The positive response from participants in Makira has paved the way for the team to continue this important work in Isabel Province.

Facilitating the workshop is a dedicated team of experienced trainers: Zinnia Leamana (OSEP Master Educator), David Houpere (SINU PE Lecturer), Carlson Hagemana (OSEP Educator and NSC Provincial Sports and Recreational Supervisor), Diana Mafuara (NSC Sports and Recreational Development Coordinator for Isabel Province), Dexter Nebolo (Principal Education Officer at MEHRD) and Wilson Domi (Principal Education Officer).

The facilitators bring knowledge and practical experience in physical education, coach development and community sport to support the delivery of the training.

The training covers key areas of the OSEP framework and physical education, equipping participants with the skills and confidence to deliver engaging and inclusive sport and PE programmes in their schools and communities. A special focus is being placed on helping schools build strong foundations ahead of the 2027 National School Games.

The National Sports Council, MEHRD and SINU extend their sincere appreciation to the Isabel Provincial Government, local education authorities and the Buala community for their warm welcome and support in hosting the workshop.
