Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation
Solomon Islands is well regarded as a country with strong interest, natural talent and abundance of potential in sport. Volleyball is recognized as one of the national sports, and has won medals in previous regional games and attracted many people – young, unemployed, boys and girls – to participate in its sport program.
The Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) was formally recognized and dully affiliated with FIVB in 1990 and subsequently member to AVC and OZVA. Since then SIVF has been a powerful body that has served nationally in 10 provinces, including Honiara. There are 16 Volleyball Associations across Solomon Islands, more than half million people live in rural areas, making up of 80% of the total population.
To date, the SIVF have registered 13,000 players and officials.
An elected Executive Board governs the sport of volleyball, comprises of a mix of elected and independently appointed members according to its constitution and general regulations. An elected executive body of the SIVF normally elected through Constituent Elective Congress over period of four (4) years. The national office is based in Honiara city capital of Solomon Islands which administered by on (1) full time staff Sport Development Officer (SDO) subsidize by NOCSI through Olympic Solidarity fund.
The Federation have organizing series of competitions in a year round including National Championships, National Club championships, Open leagues competitions, Business Houses league, School Cup, Ministry Inter league, National Cup, Under age category events, beach volleyball events and development course and training.
In recent time, our indoor and beach volleyball was more competitive regionally and have been qualified to the Birmingham Commonwealth games in 2022. Our beach volleyball girls win the silver medal while the boys ranked 4th in the region at the recent Pacific games in 2023. Our indoor both men and women ranked 7 position in the recent Pacific Games which is a big step to moved up from bottom 10 to top 7th.
Financially, the federation depend entirely on fundraising income, competitions levies, gate fees and association subscription fees. The SIVF did not receive any form of financial grants from its mother body like FIVB, AVC or OZVA. Even the Government of Solomon Islands or National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands. However, the SIVF at times receive funding through SIG, NOCSI and FIVB through ad hoc requests and project proposal.
Over the last 15 years, the SIVF have been stable and strong administratively building its management and administration capacity. The SIVF have been actively participating in all regional events and international qualifiers events. Unfortunately, the SIVF is direly need a permanent home to be call “HOME of VOLLEYBALL”.
