Solomon Islands Basketball Federation
The Solomon Island Basketball Federation (SIBF) is the national body of basketball of the Solomon Islands. Basketball has always been a popular sport within the Solomon Islands, and the establishment of the Federation in the 1980's has helped the sport progress.
The Federation is involved with a number of competitions including the Primary School, High School, Under 14 years and under 20 years. SIBF also assists with any provincial association league run throughout the country.
Vision | For basketball to become the number two most popular and widely played sports in the Solomon Islands |
Mission | To support institutional strengthening, increase participation, provide leadership, maintain sustainable growth and deliver positive development of basketball throughout Solomon Islands |
Core Values | R.E.B.O.U.N.D Respect | Excellence | Brand | Ownership | Unity | National success | Development The core values for Solomon Island basketball under this new strategy is resonated and reflected under the word; REBOUND. The word when abbreviated, covers the sets of values in which SIBF aims to focus on. Rebound in this context simply refers to the sport of basketball making a comeback after many years of dormancy and adrift. Before the ethnic crises of the late 1990’s and early 2000, basketball was the second most active sport in the Solomon Islands. When the crises was at its peak, basketball faded into the background. Less people played due to lack of facilities (damaged) and limited programs conducted. Safety and security were an issue for the sport and gradually the environment was not conducive for the sport to thrive. Today basketball is in a revival mode and the new strategic approach embraces ideals which promote Respect, Excellence, Branding, Ownership, Unity, National success and Development. |
